AGROCATE, the sustainable production of agricultural surfactants and fertilizers through the valorization of avocado by-products, is a project focused on the study and valorization of all avocado waste and by-products for the sustainable production, formulation, and validation of different types of surfactants and organic amendments with potential fertilizing activity of great interest to the agro-industrial sector. The project is based on the optimization of efficient, low-environmental-impact technologies applied to avocado by-products and waste as a whole, such as peels, pulp remains, and pits. This project studies different valorization processes at different scales to obtain surfactants based on sustainably extracted phospholipids and microbial fatty acids (MFAs) in both cases. This project also promotes the production of organic amendments and fertilizers, allowing for the validation of these raw materials in the agricultural industry.

The AGROCATE project integrates and implements sustainable technological developments designed to optimize the production of phospholipids, AGMs, and fertilizers, as well as their formulations, analyzes the quality and safety of the resulting products, scales up the technologies, and validates the efficacy and applicability of the resulting preparations in the final target sector: agriculture.

The implementation of the AGROCATE project will strengthen the company’s value chain, enabling the accelerated industrialization and commercialization of new natural products for the agricultural sector (fertilizers and surfactants) by implementing the sustainable byproduct/waste valorization model proposed in this project. In addition to the aforementioned benefits, this system will also have a positive impact on all stakeholders involved in the project throughout the value chain, from consumers, citizens, companies responsible for waste management and treatment, and end users to farmers, ranchers, and society at large.
